Application Steps

COE & Visa Application Process

Individuals of foreign nationality wishing to enter Japan for language studies must first apply for and be issued a visa. The residential status for the purpose of studies in Japan is designated as "Student", with a specific period of stay not exceeding 2 years for language institutes.

Certificate of Eligibility (COE)

An international student wishing to study in Japan or their proxy (such as language school staff) will first apply for an authorized COE at a regional immigration services bureau.

* Note: In most cases, the school accepting the student will serve as the proxy. Please contact the school for exact document requirements.

Proof of Financial Ability

When applying for a COE or visa, you must submit proof of ability to pay all expenses during your stay in Japan.

Visa Application

Once the COE is issued, the visa application form can be submitted to a Japanese embassy or consulate in your home country or country/region of residence.

Entry to Japan

Upon arrival at a Japanese airport, you must present your Passport, Visa from the Japanese embassy/consulate, and the Certificate of Eligibility (COE).

Visit Japan Web

You can use the "Visit Japan Web" service for a smooth arrival procedure at the airport. This digital registry handles Quarantine, Immigration, and Customs declarations.

First entry to higher education begins with enrollment in a Japanese language institute which opens the doors for university studies.

Class Schedule & Major Terms:While April and October are the major intakes that almost all Japanese language schools accept, classes run approximately 4 hours per day.

Part-Time Work & National Health Insurance
Part-Time Work Permit:Under Japanese immigration regulations, student visa holders can obtain a Certificate of Authorized Employment to work part-time up to 28 hours per week. Working in entertainment, amusement, or sex-related businesses is strictly prohibited.
National Health Insurance (NHI):Joining the National Health Insurance scheme is compulsory. Students pay only 30% of their medical expenses, making healthcare highly affordable. A medical checkup is required once a year.
Submission & Screening Process:Applications must be sent to the specific school's physical address through the post office. Upon receipt, schools conduct document verification, written examinations, and entrance interviews.
